People with an intellectual disability
and the criminal justice system
The New South Wales Law Reform Commission is looking at how the criminal law affects people with an intellectual disability. We suggest to the government ways of making the law better.
We are looking at -
- crimes against or done by people with an intellectual disability
- police and lawyers and peoples' problems with them
- going to court, as a victim, a witness or an accused person
- prison and other sentences.
The Commission has prepared an Issues Paper and is looking for ideas on any matters affecting people with an intellectual disability and the criminal law.
If you have any ideas or want a free copy of the Paper ring us on (02) 252 3855 and ask to speak to Leonie, Stephanie or Tom. You can also write to us or we can come and talk to you or your friends.
