Alumni dinner at Hellenic Club
20 June 2008

Alumni members and Departmental staff gathered at The Hellenic Club recently to network and catch up.

“Members of the alumni, the Alumni Working Party and the Alumni Management Committee attended. There were 20 guests and it was good to see them socialising, reminiscing and talking about where they are now,” said Manager Workforce Planning and Strategy Melita Cornell.

“We have more than 200 members of the alumni now so it would be great to see even more members attend future events. By bringing alumni and current staff together, we hope to create an ongoing relationship, one in which experiences and knowledge are shared.”

The Department launched the alumni last year to enable members to share knowledge, network and keep in touch with the Department.

More than 30 people attended the Alumni's first event to be held at the Department's new Parramatta headquarters.

The head office is now located at the Justice Precinct Offices, in the new $330 million Parramatta Justice Precinct.

Members had the chance to tour through the Department’s exciting new building and surrounding marriage garden.

Speaking at the event, Mark Harrison of Asset Management Services explained to Alumni members and guests that the building is designed with a five-star environmental rating, the first NSW Government department to achieve this standard.

Other guest speakers included Imelda Dodds, Protective Commissioner and Public Guardian; Walter Cellich, Director of Information Services Branch; Elizabeth Casey, Assistant Director of Human Resources Branch, and Roger Wescombe of the Alumni Management Committee.

Alumni events are held to give people the opportunity to renew friendships and establish networks.

Creating partnerships with alumni members
12 July 2007

About 40 people attended the second Alumni meeting held after hours in the Goodsell Building, on 12 July.

The alumni members who came along to meet and mingle, and to hear from key speakers while also meeting members who have volunteered to join the new Alumni Management Committee.

Maree Perfrement, from Human Resources Branch, said it was particularly impressive to have six Business Centre Managers also come along to the event, as mixing with interested ex-employees is likely to provide opportunities to identify future projects in which alumni members can participate and share their experience with current employees.

'The AGD Alumni has been established to provide a mechanism for the Department to establish an ongoing relationship with ex-employees,' she said.

'By maintaining this relationship it is hoped that Business Centre's will have a ready pool of skilled resources for future Departmental initiatives.'

Key speakers included Supreme Court Chief Executive Officer, Megan Greenwood, who spoke about the Courts 2010 program, which attracted particular interest from Local Courts alumnists.

Director of Human Resources Branch, Helen Kidston also spoke to members.

David Hull of the newly formed AGD Alumni Management Committee introduced each member of the committee and explained their role and function.

The Alumni Management Committee also announced future events for the AGD Alumni will be held on 12 October and also 7 December.

The AGD Alumni provides an opportunity for former employees to share their expertise and experiences, while renewing friendships and establishing networks.

Membership is also open to staff planning to leave or retire in the near future.

Alumni kicks off
26 May 2007

The Department was pleased to welcome many of the 185 people who have expressed an interest in joining the Alumni, to the information briefing session on the 19th April.

Director General Laurie Glanfield told guests the Department valued their expertise and encouraged them to share their experience and provide advice and input into innovative programs.

"The Alumni is an opportunity to retain contacts and friendships while keeping in contact with the Department’s activities," he said.

The Department's Alumni has been established primarily for former or retiring employees to join and share experiences, expertise and social gatherings.

The Alumni welcomes ex-employees' ongoing involvement in the Department's future and, in return, provides an ideal forum for former work colleagues to keep updated on departmental news and activities.
